Power of Presence

Many people face stress on a day-to-day basis. According to the American Institute of Stress, around 55% of people are stressed during the day. These results are slightly more than half of the population, which is not good because stress can affect your health drastically. Too much stress can lead to headaches, high blood pressure, heart problems, diabetes, skin conditions, asthma, arthritis, depression, and anxiety, according to webmd.com.

Stress can also be caused by other factors, such as work, personal problems, procrastination, people, and being overwhelmed by other challenges in our lives. Sometimes, we are the cause of our own stress, which can be from doing more than we can.

We can also be stressed out from significant challenges in our lives, 👉 like a job interview or even a date. When we are anxious, we don't present our best selves, affecting what people think of us. Therefore, we need a solution to solve this stress and anxiousness to show ourselves better.

Amy Cuddy, an American social psychologist, said, "don't fake it till you make it. Fake it till you become it." This means that if you are stressed from procrastinating, you need to fake being productive and on task until you become a productive person and build effective habits. Hence, you are improving your power of presence. 🙂

You may ask, what is presence? Presence is "bringing your boldest self to

the most challenging times of your life," said Amy cuddy herself. This quote means to face your most significant challenges with bravery, even if you aren't brave at the moment. Like she said before, 👉 "don't fake it till you make it. Fake it till you become it."

So what are some ways that we can practice the power of presence to face our biggest challenges?

✅ Self-affirmations: pick values that will not change, regardless of whether or not you've "won," and then remind yourself of them before your big event.

✅ Posture: posture plays a big part in what people think of you. The better posture you have, the better outlook you will have with the challenge that you are facing.

✅ Make a plan: develop a plan for attaining the goal you want to reach.
